A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Akindele Ayekooto, has speculated that former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, may end up serving as the Director General of a potential Atiku-Amaechi presidential campaign, rather than emerging as the coalition’s flagbearer.
Ayekooto shared his opinion in a post on X, saying: “From the look of things, Peter Obi will be the DG of Atiku-Amaechi Campaign Organisation.”
This statement comes amid growing speculation about the 2027 presidential race. Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, a key figure in the emerging opposition coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), is reportedly gearing up for another run. Atiku has reiterated his commitment to fighting corruption if elected president.
Peter Obi has also repeatedly affirmed his intention to contest in 2027, while former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, is rumored to be considering joining the race as well.
The evolving dynamics within the ADC coalition suggest a competitive build-up to the next presidential election.
