Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has described the orange economy as a vital catalyst for job creation, wealth generation and sustainable economic growth in the state and Nigeria.
He said Kano’s vast human, creative and entrepreneurial potential could be better harnessed through strategic investments in the orange economy, adding that such efforts would significantly contribute to economic development.
Governor Yusuf stated this while speaking at a dinner organized to mark the conclusion of a one-week study tour of Kano by participants of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Senior Executive Course (SEC) 48, 2026.
The governor, who was represented by his deputy, Murtala Sule Garo, commended NIPSS for its contributions to national development and thanked the institute for selecting Kano as a focus of its study on “Orange Economy and Entrepreneurship for Sustainable Development in Nigeria.”
According to a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Mustapha Muhammad, Yusuf said the study tour provided the delegation with opportunities to interact with government institutions, traditional leaders, private-sector operators and members of the public.
He added that visits to key cultural sites and markets also offered the participants valuable insights into Kano’s development realities, economic challenges, hospitality and entrepreneurial heritage.
The delegation, led by Brigadier General L.A. Jimoh, mni, visited the state to assess development programs, engage relevant stakeholders and examine how Kano is harnessing its human, creative and entrepreneurial resources.
Speaking at the event, Jimoh commended the Kano State Government for its efforts to promote creativity, entrepreneurship and economic expansion.
He described Kano as a major historical and modern centre of enterprise, innovation, craftsmanship, trade and human capital, noting that its longstanding traditions in commerce, textiles, leatherwork, fashion, agriculture, manufacturing and creative expression provide a strong foundation for the growth of the orange economy.
He said the delegation also identified significant opportunities in traditional crafts, film, media, design, music, publishing, cultural tourism and digital enterprise.
Jimoh specifically highlighted the state government’s revival of 26 entrepreneurship skills training schools, which he said had equipped thousands of young people with vocational skills, working tools and start-up capital.
He said the initiatives demonstrated the potential of the orange economy to generate wealth, empower women and young people, preserve cultural heritage and strengthen Kano’s contribution to the national economy.
Earlier, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Dr Suleiman Wali Sani, mni, welcomed the delegation and expressed appreciation to NIPSS for choosing Kano for the study tour.
Similarly, the Chairman of the Planning Committee and Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Dr Danjuma Mahmoud, thanked members of the committee and the NIPSS delegation for what he described as a successful engagement.
