Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, on Tuesday, laid the foundation for a N22 billion luxury housing estate and commissioned a 7.7-kilometer rural road in Sokoto State, marking a significant stride in infrastructure and socioeconomic development.
The 500-unit estate located near Sokoto’s New City is part of a collaborative initiative with the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP).
The dual projects aim to tackle housing shortages and improve rural connectivity in Sokoto.
At the groundbreaking ceremony, Governor Ododo commended his host, Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State, for his strategic leadership and developmental vision.
He described Aliyu as a symbol of purposeful governance, blending competence with commitment to public welfare.
“Democratic leadership thrives on trust and accountability.
“Governor Aliyu’s resolve to address the housing deficit reflects a bold and forward-looking vision for a sustainable and inclusive Sokoto,” Ododo said.
He praised Aliyu’s efforts to spread development across the state, noting that such initiatives foster growth and inspire hope among citizens.
Speaking on the housing project, Governor Aliyu said it forms part of his administration’s broader plan to reduce Nigeria’s housing deficit, particularly for public servants and low-income earners.
The estate, he noted, will be delivered on an owner-occupier basis and completed within 12 months.
“Our goal is to ensure that hardworking citizens have access to quality and affordable housing.
“This estate will stand as a testament to our commitment to equity and sustainable development,” Aliyu said.
Governor Aliyu also commissioned the Gande–Gwahitto–Fako road, a 7.7km stretch built at over N2.2 billion under the RAAMP scheme. He described the road as a catalyst for rural transformation and a critical asset for the state’s agricultural value chain.
“This project will ease the movement of farm inputs and produce, reduce post-harvest losses, and improve market access for rural farmers,” Aliyu explained.
The road features complete pavement layers, hydraulic structures, a 30mm asphaltic surface, and durable shoulders, traversing key communities in Silame and Binji LGAs and directly benefiting thousands of rural dwellers.
Governor Aliyu concluded by thanking Governor Ododo for honoring the invitation, calling the visit a shared milestone in Sokoto’s journey toward inclusive growth and regional development.
