The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kano State Council, has inaugurated the State Online Media Chapel.
The event, which took place at the Kano Council Secretariat on Sunday, was witnessed by different Online Media platforms that formed the Chapel.
Also in attendance were the Kano State Commissioner of Information, Ambassador Ibrahim Waiya, Permanent Secretary, Bala Muhammed, Managing Director of Radio Kano, Adamu Abubakar Rano, Abbas Ibrahim, Sulaiman Abdullahi Dederi, NUJ Chairman, and Immediate Chairman of NUJ Kano, Abbas Ibrahim, Director of Internal Affairs, Usman Bello, and other dignitaries.
In an opening address by the Chairman of the Inaugural Committee, veteran journalist, Ahmed Aminu, stressed that online media is a worldwide platform for disseminating information because it reaches a wide range of audiences.
“The idea of the government under the tutelage of the commissioner of information and state government is happy to see all the online practitioners under one umbrella, in order to make information authentic, reliable, and objective.
“Coming together to work with the existing media in Kano will enhance information dissemination.
“I called on all journalists to adhere to the ethics and core values by being reliable allies of society’s growth.
Aminu called on journalists to be sensitive while reporting issues to bring peace and unity in society.
He cautions journalists to avoid speculation, fake news, and the spread of rumors, which will go against the laws, and urges them to verify and fact-check information before reporting to the general public.
The Chairman of the Kano Council of NUJ, Comrade Suleiman A. Dederi, administered the oath to the newly inaugurated executives of Kano Online Media Chapel.

- Vice Chairman: Kahdija Aliyu, publisher of Paradigm News
- Secretary: Isiyaku Ahmad, publisher of Stallion Times
- Assistant Secretary: Zahrau Nasir Ahmed, publisher of Daily Watch 24
- Financial Secretary: Zainab Abdurrahman Mai Agogo, publisher of Kakaki24
- Treasurer: Abbas Yushau Yusuf, publisher of Nigeria Tracker and
- Auditor: Musa Ahmad Durumin Iya, publisher of Alifijir News

In his speech, the Kano State Commissioner of Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Waiya, expressed his long-standing support for journalism and affirmed his belief in the nobility of the profession. He reiterated his determination to uphold these values.
He said 27th April 2025 is a historic day.
“We support this process and aim to bring reforms to the information sector.
“What is happening in the media space is quite unfortunate, and we cannot change it unless we bring critical stakeholders together. We do not want Kano to be left behind in this process.
“The chapel is open for all online practitioners to register, and unity is one of its strongest pillars.
“All necessary support will be provided to the Chapel,” he added.
The newly inaugurated Chairman of the Kano Online Media Chapel, Comrade Abubakar Abdulkadir Dangambo, expressed gratitude and commitment in his acceptance speech:
He said the formation of the Kano Online Media Chapel is a bold recognition of the transformative role digital platforms now play in shaping public opinion, holding power accountable, and amplifying the voices of the people.
“We are not here to compete with traditional media—we are here to complement, innovate, and lead the way in responsible, ethical, and impactful journalism in the digital age.
“I do not take this responsibility lightly. I am committed to building a chapel that upholds professionalism, promotes unity among practitioners, and protects the interests of our members.
“Together, we will pursue opportunities for capacity building and partnerships that empower our members to thrive in this fast-evolving media landscape.
He pledged to earn the public trust, ensure that the content upholds the highest standards of truth, fairness, and integrity.
“As online journalists, we have a duty not only to inform but to inspire progress and development in our society,” he added.
“To the honorable Commissioner of Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, I extend my heartfelt gratitude for your support in realizing our dream for this chapel.
Dangambo then thanked NUJ, specifically the National President and the Kano Council Chairman and his team, for recognizing the need for this chapel and supporting its emergence.
