Veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, has died at the age of 66 after battling cancer.
The renowned Yoruba actor reportedly died at about 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, 23 August 2026, following his prolonged struggle with the illness.
His daughter, Kira Taiwo, announced the death in an emotional video circulating on social media, where she was seen in tears repeatedly saying, “My daddy is dead.”
According to a burial announcement shared by veteran actor Jide Kosoko, Ogogo will be buried on Monday, August 24, in his hometown, Ilaro, Ogun State.
The actor’s death came days after his daughters, Kira and Haleemah, disclosed that he had been diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer and appealed to Nigerians for support as the family explored treatment options.
Following the appeal, hundreds of Nigerians, colleagues and well-wishers reportedly offered medical, spiritual and financial assistance to the veteran actor.
Ogogo’s close friend and colleague, Yinka Quadri, said more than 300 people, and possibly over 500, had contacted the family with offers of assistance.
In a statement shared on Instagram, Quadri said the overwhelming number of offers had become difficult for the family to manage, particularly as they sought to determine which interventions could be pursued without interfering with Ogogo’s ongoing treatment.
The actor also received support from Ogun State governorship aspirant, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Senator Yayi, who reportedly facilitated efforts to secure specialist medical care for him.
Actress Toyosi Adesanya had earlier disclosed that Adeola personally contacted cancer specialists to assist Ogogo and that the actor had been admitted for treatment.
However, shortly before his death was announced, Kira raised concerns over attempts by some individuals to exploit her father’s illness.
During an emotional TikTok live session on Saturday, she reportedly accused some people who offered to assist the family of making financial demands while the actor was battling the disease.
Ogogo was a prominent figure in the Yoruba film industry and made significant contributions to Nollywood over several decades. His death marks the loss of one of the veteran actors who helped shape the Yoruba-language film sector.
