Niger State Government has approved the implementation of the Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance (CATA) and Consolidated Non-Teaching Tools Allowance (CONTTA) for staff of the state-owned universities.
According to a statement issued by Bologi Ibrahim, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, the beneficiaries are Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBU), Lapai, and Abdulkadir Kure University (AKUM), Minna.
The approval, which takes effect from October 2026, was given by Governor Bago, according to a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Abubakar Usman.
CATA is a tax-free financial grant designed to assist academic staff in procuring essential tools and materials required for teaching and research.
Similarly, CONTTA is aimed at improving the welfare of non-teaching staff, adjusting hazard allowances and promoting industrial harmony within the tertiary education sector.
The state government said the approval further demonstrated Governor Bago’s commitment to strengthening the education sector and improving the welfare of workers in the state’s tertiary institutions.
