The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) has expressed deep sorrow over the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away in London on Sunday, 13 July 2025.
In a condolence message signed on Sunday by the Chairman of the Forum and Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, the Forum described Buhari’s death as a significant loss to Nigeria and Africa, noting that his passing marks the departure of one of the continent’s most respected leaders.
“Buhari was not just a former President or military leader; he was a national icon known for his moral courage, strong character, and unwavering sense of duty,” the statement read.
The NGF praised his humility, strategic patience, and modest lifestyle, qualities that, according to the Forum, distinguished him as a leader of rare calibre.
The Governors extended their condolences to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, acknowledging the personal loss Tinubu has suffered with the passing of his friend, predecessor, and party ally.
They also sent sympathies to former First Lady, Mrs Aishah Buhari, the entire Buhari family, and the people of Katsina State.
“As we mourn, we pray Allah, the giver and taker of life, to ease the account of His servant, Muhammadu Buhari, grant him al-jannah Firdaus, and comfort his family and the nation at large.”
