The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has provided relief support to 3,000 victims of windstorms and heavy rainfall across 13 local government areas in Yobe State to help them rebuild their homes.
The intervention included the distribution of essential building materials such as 20,000 pieces each of timber wood and ceiling boards, 6,000 pieces each of 12mm and 10mm iron rods, 3,000 bundles of zinc roofing sheets, and 2,000 cartons of roofing nails.
Presenting the items on behalf of the NEDC Managing Director, Mohammed Goni Alkali, the Yobe State Coordinator, Professor Ali Ibrahim Abbas, stated that the support was aimed at alleviating the suffering of vulnerable households impacted by natural disasters and communal conflicts.
He noted that the gesture aligns with the commission’s broader commitment to improving living conditions in the North East.
In addition to the building materials, the NEDC also donated a range of search and rescue equipment to the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to strengthen its emergency response capacity.
The donated items included rain boots, life jackets, pulley ropes, hooks, demarcation cables, boat safety gear, and 15 full sets of search and rescue kits.
Yobe State Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Dr. Mairo Ahmed Amshi, thanked the NEDC for the timely intervention.
She emphasized that the relief items would be distributed appropriately and used strictly for their intended purposes to benefit affected residents.
