The National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) has partnered with the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) as part of efforts to digitize its examination process and overhaul the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) infrastructure.
The Registrar/Chief Executive Officer of NABTEB, Dr Muhammed Aminu Mohammed, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday and made available to newsmen in Benin City.
Mohammed said the collaboration was reached on April 29, 2025 during a meeting with NASENI representatives at the board’s headquarters in Benin City.
He said the partnership would help the agency upgrade, streamline its operations, improve exam security, and align with federal directives to fully digitise exams by 2026.
“NABTEB as a foremost national examination body saddled with the responsibility for registration, question paper development, distribution, conduct of crafts and master crafts as well as modular trade examinations, marking of scripts, result processing and award of certificates, needs an ICT infrastructure capable of delivering on its mandate.
“The strengthening of the board’s ICT capabilities is even more paramount given the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Olatunji Alausa’s unwavering commitment to functional education.
“Part of this includes the Minister’s noble drive to ensure the success of the administration’s directive to examination bodies to be fully digitised by mounting a Computer Based Test (CBT) from 2026 in line with President Bola Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda,” he said.
The NABTEB boss added that an earlier meeting was held in Abuja with the Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NASENI, Mr Khalil Halilu, where he had pledged the intervention of the agency by helping NABTEB set-up a digital ICT department.
He commended the Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NASENI, for assiduously working to make good on his support by promising to deliver to the board a new ICT building with the accompanying ICT infrastructure within the next six months.
He, however, expressed optimism that NASENI would provide the board with world-class infrastructure that would support it to maintain integrity, efficiency and relevance of its examinations in the digital age.
In his address, Mr Bashir Aliyu, Special Adviser to the Executive Vice Chairman of NASENI on Emerging Technology, assured the board that the agency would support and help it in the digitisation of its examinations processes.
According to him, “We are here to support you. We are here to help you in digitization. We did it in NASENI. This is the way to go, to help you leapfrog by being reliant on ICT.”
It could be recalled that the new NABTEB registrar had, during his assumption of duty in March 2025, committed to the digitization of the examination process.
He opined that the digitisation would minimise human errors, reduce processing time and enhance the overall efficiency of operations.
