The Kano State Ministry for Public Procurement Project Monitoring and Evaluation (MPPPM&E), has warned contractors handling the ongoing 5km road Projects in 44 local governments to speed up work or face contract termination.
The Honorable Commissioner Nura Ma’aji Sumaila issued the warning on Thursday after receiving complaints from the residents shortly after the inspection of the 5KM road project in Bunkure local government.
Malam Aminu Muhammad, a resident of Kofar Fada complained to the Honorable Commissioner that people are afraid because of the heavy rain flows during the rainy season.
The Honorable Commissioner used to interact with the communities in each site visited to hear their views about the 5KM road project.
The 5KM road inspection tour today visited Garun Malam, Kura, Bunkure, Rano, and Kibiya local governments.
Summarizing the outcome of the tour, the Honorable Commissioner commended the contractors handling the 5 km road of Rano and Kibiya local governments.
While in Garun Malam, the Honorable Commissioner said that the project was even revoked as the contractor abandoned the site.
“In Bunkure and Kura local governments, we warned the contractors. We issued them a warning for the last time.” He said
“In the next two weeks, the tour will come back to these two locations. If found that none of them comply, we will recommend revocation of the contracts,” he added
The Honorable Commissioner then drew the attention of the contractors to expedite actions and make sure that what they are doing meets the required standards and quality as Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf ensured cost-effective projects that are quality assured.
The 5KM road inspection tour is expected to go around 44 local governments every month to ensure quality and timely completion.
