The appointment of the Commissioner of Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, and his counterpart in the Ministry of Procurement, Projects Monitoring, and Evaluation, Comrade Nura Iro Ma’aji, has been described as well-deserved and timely.
This was stated by the Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Hassan Ibrahim Gama, during a Congratulatory Dinner held on Tuesday in their honor at Tahir Hotel.
The event was organized by friends and colleagues of the newly appointed Commissioners from the Civil Society Organizations (CSOs).
Gama highlighted that the dinner was a recognition of their dedication, commitment, and long-standing contributions to the CSO movement.
He expressed confidence that they would bring their wealth of experience to bear in their new roles and urged them to be good ambassadors of the Civil Society sector.
As part of the event, Professor Bello Ibrahim presented a thought-provoking paper on “Transitioning from Civil Society to Public Office – Developmental Expectations from Citizens and CSOs in Kano,” where he examined the responsibilities of public office holders who have emerged from the civil society space and the expectations of the people they serve.
Similarly, Professor M.B. Shittu delivered a presentation on “Fostering Support for Sustainable Development in Kano State – The Role of Civil Society and Media,” emphasizing the need for collaboration between the government, civil society, and media in driving sustainable development initiatives in the state.
During the dinner, the International Peace and Secure Society conferred the National Peace Ambassador Awards and Awards of Excellence as Fellows to the two celebrants in recognition of their contributions to peacebuilding and good governance.
In their separate votes of thanks, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya and Comrade Nura Iro Ma’aji expressed deep appreciation to the organizers, acknowledging the honor bestowed upon them by their friends and colleagues.
They pledged to remain true to the ideals of the Civil Society Organizations and work towards the effective implementation of the policies they have long advocated for.
