Former presidential candidate and leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, has called on U.S. President Donald Trump to offer technological support to Nigeria instead of making statements that could strain relations between both countries.
Kwankwaso, in a statement shared on his Facebook page on Sunday, expressed concern over Trump’s recent remarks describing Nigeria as a “country of particular concern.” He said the comment was troubling and failed to recognize the true nature of the nation’s challenges.
“I have noted with increasing concern the heightened pronouncements on Nigeria by President Donald Trump, following his designation of Nigeria as a ‘country of particular concern,’” Kwankwaso said. “The insecurity we face does not discriminate based on religion, ethnicity, or political belief.”
The former Kano State governor urged the U.S. to assist Nigeria in combating insecurity through technological innovations and intelligence support rather than through threats or punitive measures.
“The United States should help Nigerian authorities with cutting-edge technology to fight insecurity, instead of issuing warnings that may deepen divisions,” he stated.
Kwankwaso also advised the Nigerian government to strengthen diplomatic ties with Washington by appointing experienced diplomats and ensuring that ambassadors effectively represent the nation’s interests abroad.
“The Nigerian government should send special envoys to engage the American government and appoint capable ambassadors to protect Nigeria’s international image,” he said.
He further appealed to Nigerians to remain united, emphasizing that the country’s strength lies in its diversity.
“At this critical moment, we must choose unity over division. God bless Nigeria,” Kwankwaso concluded.
