Former Kano State governor and 2023 NNPP presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, is in advanced talks with the All Progressives Congress (APC) over plans to rejoin the ruling party.

Sources disclosed that Kwankwaso has written to the APC national secretariat in Abuja and has been holding discussions with the party’s national chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, as well as the presidency.

According to insiders, Kwankwaso’s return is tied to conditions, including securing the 2027 governorship ticket for Kano governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, and a prominent role for himself in the next APC-led government.

While Kano APC leaders confirmed awareness of his letter, they noted that it was sent directly to Abuja due to his strained ties with the state chapter. Associates of Governor Yusuf also indicated he is ready to defect once Kwankwaso gives the nod.

However, APC National Publicity Director, Bala Ibrahim, dismissed reports of any official letter, describing them as speculation, but added that the party is open to welcoming Kwankwaso and others willing to work within its ideology.

Kwankwaso, who led the NNPP to victory in Kano in 2023, had recently said his party was not opposed to joining the APC but insisted on clear guarantees of benefits for NNPP members nationwide.
