Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris ( Kauran Gwandu), joined his Northwest counterparts in Hadejia to witness the commissioning of landmark projects executed by Jigawa State Governor, Mallam Umar Namadi.

Governor Nasir Idris, who led the delegation of Northwest governors, commended Governor Namadi for his visionary leadership and commitment to delivering impactful projects that directly improve the lives of the people.

The projects were commissioned on Monday by Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.

Among the projects inaugurated were the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Future Academy, the Senator Oluremi Tinubu Clinic, and the National Community Food Bank.

Speaking during the ceremony, the First Lady described the projects as strategic interventions aimed at youth empowerment, improved healthcare delivery, and the fight against child malnutrition. She explained that the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Future Academy and the state-of-the-art healthcare facility were facilitated by the Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Dr. Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, as part of efforts to deepen digital innovation and expand access to quality healthcare across the country.

Senator Tinubu applauded NITDA’s investment in digital infrastructure, noting that the academy would equip young Nigerians with the digital skills needed to compete in the global economy while providing innovative solutions to local challenges.

The First Lady also launched the National Community Food Bank Programme, an initiative under her office and the Renewed Hope Initiative, designed to combat child malnutrition by providing nutritious food to pregnant women, nursing mothers, and children under the age of six.

She disclosed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had directed her to champion the campaign against child malnutrition following alarming national statistics, emphasizing that intervention must begin during pregnancy rather than waiting until children become severely malnourished.

According to her, Community Food Banks will be established across the country, particularly within Primary Healthcare Centres, to ensure vulnerable mothers and children have easy access to nutritious food.

Senator Tinubu further revealed that the Dangote Group had committed N20 billion worth of food items to the programme, while the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) would construct Food Bank facilities nationwide for N30 billion. She also announced her personal donation of N500 million to support the initiative, alongside contributions from other organizations, including the Bank of Agriculture.

In his remarks, the Governor of Jigawa State, Mallam Umar Namadi, described the projects as landmark investments that would accelerate digital transformation, strengthen healthcare delivery, and create greater opportunities for young people in Jigawa State.

The commissioning ceremony was attended by governors from the Northwest, federal ministers, members of the National Assembly, traditional rulers, development partners, and other distinguished guests.
