Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, has approved the full absorption of all GAVI/UNICEF-supported Primary Health Care (PHC) staff into the Unified Local Government Service as part of efforts to strengthen the state’s healthcare system and improve grassroots service delivery.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Umar Dutsin-Mari, and made available to journalists in Birnin Kebbi.

According to the statement, the decision is in line with the administration’s commitment to strengthening PHC services across the state’s 21 local government areas.

The move follows the successful implementation of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Kebbi State Government and GAVI/UNICEF, which significantly enhanced access to quality healthcare services.

Dutsin-Mari recalled that during the MoU close-out ceremony, Governor Idris had pledged to secure the future of dedicated health workers under the GAVI/UNICEF-supported PHC programs.

He said the governor has now fulfilled that promise with the approval for their full integration into the civil service structure.

In a related development, the governor has also approved the recruitment of an additional 191 health personnel, bringing the total number of recruits across the 21 local government areas to 500.

The commissioner said the recruitment aims to boost manpower, ensure continuity, and strengthen healthcare delivery in rural and urban communities.

He expressed the government’s appreciation for the continued partnership and support of GAVI and UNICEF in improving health outcomes in the state.

Dutsin-Mari reaffirmed the government’s commitment to sustaining progress in the health sector and ensuring better welfare for health workers.

He also called on residents of Kebbi State to continue supporting government policies aimed at providing quality and accessible healthcare for all.
