The Kano State Consumer Protection Council (KCPC) has inspected cooking oil products being sold by traders at Galadima Market to assess their quality, weight and compliance with consumer protection regulations.
A statement issued on Saturday by Jamilu Mustapha Yakasai, the Director of Public Enlightenment, said the exercise also focused on the hygienic conditions of areas where the products are sold, as part of efforts to safeguard public health and protect consumers from substandard or adulterated products.
Speaking during the inspection, the Executive Secretary of the Council, Dr. Ibrahim Garba Muhammad, said the agency would continue to use its mandate to protect consumers’ rights and ensure that products available in markets meet required quality standards.
He urged consumers to remain vigilant and pay close attention to the products they purchase, particularly food items.
According to him, a lack of vigilance among consumers could provide opportunities for dishonest traders to adulterate products or compromise their quality.
Dr. Muhammad commended the Kano State Government for its continued support towards strengthening the Council’s consumer protection activities and enabling it to take appropriate action against violations of consumers’ rights.
He also urged traders involved in the cooking oil business to cooperate with the Council in its efforts to curb the sale of adulterated products.
The Executive Secretary stressed the need for traders to comply with established regulations, noting that adherence to safety and quality standards was essential to protecting the health and well-being of residents.
