Kano SEC Approves N69bn for Massive Infrastructure, Health, Education, Power Projects

The Kano State Executive Council, under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, convened its 29th meeting on Wednesday, where major policy decisions and project approvals were made across key sectors to drive inclusive development and improve service delivery across the state.

Briefing newsmen shortly after the council meeting, the Commissioner of Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, said N69.05 billion was approved for various developmental projects and interventions spanning health, education, infrastructure, energy, transportation, water, youth development, and humanitarian affairs.

Key Approvals:

Health Sector

N180 million: Counterpart funding for free maternal, neonatal, child health, and emergency programs

N240 million: Toyota Coaster bus for the School of Health Technology, Bebeji

N107.4 million: Operational support for Kano Ultra-Modern Specialist Hospital (KUSH)

N344.7 million: Routine immunization support (Q2 2025)

Education

Renovation of technical and secondary schools across Dambatta, Ungogo, Tsanyawa, and Guringawa — N1.22 billion

Establishment of a new primary school in Gishiri-Wuya, Warawa LGA — N190.3 million

Renovation of bilingual colleges in Kwankwaso — N507.6 million

Conduct of internal exams — N300.6 million

Boarding school feeding liabilities — N718.7 million

Reopening and renovation of 13 shut-down boarding schools — N3.04 billion

Energy & Power

N2.17 billion: Power infrastructure at Government House

N394 million: Low-voltage cable works

N320.8 million: Power stabilization for regional water supply

N94.5 million: Hydro power plant maintenance debt

Water Resources

N475.3 million: KEDCO bills (March–April 2025)

₦713.4 million: Diesel supply for May 2025

Environment & Climate Change

N300 million: NEWMAP-EIB climate project kickoff

N667 million: Drainage construction and clearance across Ajingi, Nassarawa, and 8 LGAs

Transport

N3.71 billion: Procurement of 500 electric tricycles for transport and employment empowerment

Youth & Sports

N152.2 million: Construction of mini stadium in Kwankwaso

Higher Education

N30.1 million: Power bills at Aliko Dangote University

N91.2 million: Renewal of pilot licences

Works & Infrastructure

N156 million: Roads at Security Institute, Gabasawa

N7.81 billion: RMK flyover rehabilitation

N24.77 billion: Katsina Road expansion and pedestrian bridges

N3.84 billion: Additional 10 pedestrian bridges

N3.79 billion: Market reconstructions, new Assembly complex

Humanitarian Affairs

N39.7 million: Flood relief for Doguwa LGA victims

Other Approvals

N244.4 million: Vehicles for KNUPDA

N2.55 billion: Urban renewal road markings and crash barrier maintenance

Additional Policy Directives:

Immediate disbursement of 3 billion FG intervention for flood victims across 44 LGAs

Settlement of $1 million offshore liability for hydro power projects

Adoption of the 2020–2023 audit report for 23 MDAs, and mandate for follow-up audit on alum supply

Comrade Waiya said Governor Yusuf summoned the Ministry of Water Resources and Water Board Management and issued a stern ultimatum to end persistent water scarcity in the state.

“Governor Yusuf reiterated his administration’s commitment to delivering inclusive governance and sustainable development.

“The Council pledged continued support to all sectors to improve the lives of Kano residents,” the Commissioner added.
