Kano Inaugurates 15-Member Committee for Gaya Polytechnic

Kano State Government has inaugurated a 15-member technical committee to oversee the establishment of a polytechnic in Gaya.

The committee was inaugurated by the Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, who also serves as the state Commissioner for Higher Education.

Speaking at the event, Comrade Gwarzo charged members of the committee to work diligently and strictly adhere to their terms of reference.

The committee is chaired by Dr. Hadi Bala Yahaya, the Permanent Secretary in the state Ministry of Higher Education, while Shehu Sani Dauda, the ministry’s Director of Administration and General Services, will serve as secretary.

The committee members are:

  2. Dr Muhammad Umar Kibiya , Deputy Rector, Kano state Polytechnic
  3. Prof. Auwalu Halliru Arzai, SA Higher Education
  4. Ibrahim Jibrin Fagge, Former Provost SRCOE
  5. Engr Yahaya Abubakar Baba, Director Physical Planning, Ministry of Higher Education
  6. Prof Abba Garba Gaya, Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology Wudil
  7. Dr Garba Adamu, Kano State Polytechnic
  8. Arch Aminu Muhammad Abdullahi, Reps Ministry of Works
  9. Reps Ministry of Justice
  10. Rep Ministry of Finance
  11. Dr Suraj Isa Gaya, Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology Wudil
  12. Usaini Ali Ajingi, Former DICT, Ministry of Higher Education
  13. Shehu Sani Shehu, DAGS, Ministry for Higher Education
  14. Dr Lukman T Siraj, Director Support Services, Ministry of Education

Among the committee’s responsibilities are assessing existing infrastructure at the proposed site, preparing a bill of quantities for required additional facilities, drafting a bill for the polytechnic’s establishment, developing an academic brief, and creating a physical master plan for the institution.

The committee is also expected to recommend resources needed for the successful take-off of the polytechnic, co-opt additional members for advisory purposes where necessary, and address other related matters pertinent to the assignment.

It has been given a two-week deadline from the date of inauguration to submit its report.
