The Kano State Government has commended the Centre for Gender Studies, Bayero University Kano (CGS-BUK), for its pioneering efforts in advancing research, innovation, and training geared towards sustainable development and social inclusion.
The commendation was given during the 10th Anniversary Celebration of the Centre, held at Bayero University Kano.
Speaking on behalf of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, the Director-General of the Kano State Social Protection Agency (KASPA), Dr. Fateema Abubakar Abdullahi (Amneef), praised the Centre for its commitment to addressing the needs of vulnerable groups, women, and persons with disabilities through evidence-based research and policy advocacy.
She noted that the Centre’s work aligns with the state government’s ongoing social protection programs and its vision of inclusive growth and empowerment.
In his opening remarks, the Vice-Chancellor of Bayero University Kano, Professor Haruna Musa, described the Centre as a trailblazer in gender research and policy engagement.
He also paid tribute to Her Excellency, Hajiya Amina Namadi Sambo, for her instrumental role in establishing the Centre, noting that its success has inspired other universities across Nigeria to create similar institutions.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Maitama Tuggar, also commended the Centre for producing impactful research that has informed policy formulation at both state and national levels.
Highlights of the anniversary included the presentation of awards to distinguished personalities, among them Hajiya Amina Namadi Sambo, as well as past and present directors of the Centre, in recognition of their contributions to gender equity and sustainable development.
