Kano State Government, under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, has commissioned the newly expanded Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) to strengthen disease control and public health emergency response in the State.

The commissioning ceremony of the newly expanded structure was performed on Friday by the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, on behalf of the state Governor.

Speaking during the event, Dr. Yusuf explained that the original Sub-National EOC was first built and commissioned on 30th January 2013, during the peak of the polio outbreak in Nigeria, particularly in Kano State, which was then considered one of the major centres of polio transmission in the country.

He stated that the facility played a significant role in coordinating activities that greatly contributed to the successful fight against polio and other related diseases from 2013 until Kano State was eventually declared polio-free.

The Commissioner further explained that the newly expanded building became necessary due to the increasing activities and growing demands from development partners, noting that Kano State currently hosts the highest number of development partners in the health sector across the country.

Dr. Yusuf expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Yusuf, the National Emergency Operations Centre, and all development partners for their continuous support and collaboration toward improving healthcare services and disease surveillance in State.

He reassured the people of Kano State of the government’s unwavering commitment to strengthening the health sector, adding that more health-related projects would soon be commissioned across the State.
