The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kaduna State has dismissed reports of mass defections within its ranks, reaffirming its unity and commitment to reclaiming power from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in upcoming elections.
Following an expanded caucus meeting held on Sunday at the ASAA Pyramid Hotel in Kaduna, party leaders issued a communiqué, firmly rejecting rumours that key members were planning to exit the party.
Signed by the state PDP Chairman, Edward Percy Masha, the communiqué stated that the caucus resolved to stand by the party’s national leadership, including the Board of Trustees and the PDP Governors’ Forum. The party also expressed strong support for the planned national elective convention, aimed at repositioning the PDP for future electoral success.
The party threw its weight behind possible strategic partnerships or alliances being explored by the national leadership to strengthen the opposition and dislodge the APC at both federal and state levels.
“As a party in Kaduna State, we are united, focused, and committed to working together for the success of PDP candidates in the upcoming by-elections and beyond,” the statement read.
The meeting also stressed the need to reinforce grassroots mobilization to counter the influence of the ruling APC and address what they described as widespread governance failures across Kaduna State.
Attendees at the caucus meeting included current and former lawmakers, local government party chairmen, youth and women leaders, and stakeholders from all three senatorial zones.
With by-elections approaching, the PDP’s latest move signals a renewed effort to consolidate internal support, dispel rumours of disunity, and present a strong, united front against the APC.
