Jigawa State Open Government Partnership (OGP) Steering Committee has renewed its commitment to transparency, accountability, and citizen engagement following a two-day retreat in Kaduna.

The event, held at Bafra International Hotel, brought together 36 participants, including commissioners, senior government officials, civil society leaders, and representatives of the OGP Secretariat.

During the retreat, participants reviewed the implementation of the State Action Plan (SAP), noting that Jigawa has achieved over 70 percent of its commitments.

However, reporting gaps were identified as a major obstacle limiting national and global recognition.

To address this, the Steering Committee resolved to fully activate the OGP Secretariat within the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, establish an official website and digital platforms, and develop a more inclusive SAP III with co-financing opportunities from civil society and partners.

A key highlight was the election of Mr. Isah Mustapha, Executive Director of ELIP-Initiative, as the new Co-Chair representing Non-State Actors.

In his acceptance speech, he pledged to uphold the values of transparency and inclusiveness, stating: “Together, we will drive open government reforms, foster collaboration, and ensure OGP delivers real impact for the people of Jigawa.”

With renewed energy and stronger collaboration between government and civil society, Jigawa is now set to enhance its visibility and secure global registration under the OGP framework.
