The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has moved Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) centres for four local government areas of Borno State to Maiduguri metropolis due to security challenges.
Borno State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Abubakar Ahmad, announced the decision on Thursday while briefing journalists in Maiduguri on the commencement of the 2025–2026 CVR exercise. The affected LGAs are Abadam, Guzamala, Kala-Balge, and Marte.
According to Ahmad, the Abadam CVR centre has been relocated to Baga Road, Guzamala’s to the Fire Service Department at 1,000 Housing Estate, Kala-Balge’s to Goni Kachalari Primary School, and Marte’s to Kachamai—all within Maiduguri metropolis.
He explained that the CVR will be conducted in three phases from August 18, 2025, to August 30, 2026. The first phase will begin with online pre-registration on August 18, followed by physical in-person registration starting August 25. Both processes will then run simultaneously.
Prospective voters can start their registration online via www.cvr.inec.gov.ng or www.cvr.inecnigeria.org, where they can also book appointments to complete the process in person at INEC offices across the state. Physical registration will take place at INEC’s state and local government offices from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays, excluding public holidays.
Ahmad assured that provisions have been made for persons with disabilities to participate fully in the exercise. Services available during the 12-month CVR period will include registration of eligible Nigerians aged 18 and above who have never registered, replacement of lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), transfer of voter registration to new polling units, collection of uncollected PVCs from previous exercises, and updating details for voters whose PVCs failed verification during the last elections.
He urged all eligible residents, especially those in the affected LGAs, to take advantage of the registration window to ensure they are able to vote in future elections.
