The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has deployed non-sensitive election materials to Dawakin Kudu/Warawa local government areas ahead of the June 20 by-election for the House of Representatives seat.
The by-election is being conducted to fill the vacancy left by the death of the lawmaker representing the constituency, Muhammad Hassan.
INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Kano State, Abdul M. Zango, disclosed this on Tuesday after a meeting of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) held at the Kano State Police Command headquarters.
Zango said the commission had concluded major preparations for the poll and expressed confidence in the security arrangements put in place by relevant agencies.
“As far as INEC is concerned, we are good to go. All our non-sensitive materials are already in the local governments and our Electoral Officers have also shared their concerns with security agencies,” he said.
He added that the commission was working closely with security agencies to ensure a peaceful, free and credible election.
“I am very confident that the security agencies will provide all the necessary support for this election.
They did so during the recent Kano Municipal and Ungogo elections, which were conducted without any incident, and this election will not be different,” he said.
Earlier, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, Lawal Isa Mani, who represented the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, said security agencies had reviewed their operational plans and were fully prepared for the exercise.
