Kano State Governor, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, has extended critical medical and humanitarian support to Ummi, a 31-year-old woman suffering from a rare and debilitating muscle condition known as proximal myopathy.
Ummi, who hails from Kano, has been living with the progressive muscle-wasting disease for over 18 years. Despite her condition, she displayed remarkable determination by completing a law degree, though her worsening health prevented her from attending Law School.
In a heartfelt message, Ummi reached out directly to the Governor, who swiftly responded by initiating a quiet verification of her situation.
Upon confirmation, he pledged to fully cover her medical needs, including mobility aids, therapy equipment, and ongoing healthcare—support estimated to cost millions of naira.
Demonstrating personal concern, Yusuf invited Ummi to the Government House for a one-on-one meeting, where he praised her courage and resilience.
During the visit, he introduced her to his daughter, a fellow law student, to offer her companionship and mentorship.
Beyond medical assistance, the Governor also announced that Ummi’s caregiver, Amina, would be placed on the Government House payroll.
He further pledged consistent food support for the family and a special Sallah celebration in their honor.
“This is life,” he stated. “Every soul has its test, its path, its destiny. But what matters is hope—and the people who help you carry on.”
The Governor’s gesture has received wide acclaim across Kano State and beyond, with many praising his compassion and commitment to people-centered leadership.
Yusuf continues to reaffirm his administration’s dedication to supporting vulnerable citizens and ensuring inclusive, responsive governance in Kano State.
