Governor Abba Kabir of Kano has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the Federal Government’s continued support to the agricultural sector in Kano State, following the delivery of 33 trucks of subsidized fertilizer to boost food production and enhance farmers’ productivity.
He made the commendation on Thursday while flagging off the distribution of the fertilizer to farmers across the state, describing the intervention as timely and a demonstration of the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening agriculture and ensuring food security.
The Governor’s remarks were contained in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad.
“We have received 33 trucks of fertilizer from the Federal Government.
“On behalf of the Government and good people of Kano State, I wish to express our profound appreciation to His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for this valuable intervention and his continued support to our state,” Governor Yusuf stated.
The Governor also appreciated the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for her humanitarian interventions and sustained support for vulnerable groups in Kano State, including women, youths, elderly persons, and farmers.
Earlier, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, commended Governor Yusuf for ensuring the timely distribution of the subsidized fertilizer to farmers, noting that prompt delivery would enable beneficiaries to maximize the current farming season.
Represented by Dahiru Abbas of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security in Kano, the Minister reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting agricultural development in Kano State.
He disclosed that, beyond the fertilizer intervention, 23,800 farmers in Kano State will benefit from the Federal Government’s agricultural support programme through the provision of farm implements and other agricultural inputs across the rice, maize, and other crop value chains.
No doubt the fertilizer being sold at a 50 percent subsidy, reducing the price from ₦50,000 to N25,000 per bag, as part of efforts to ease the burden on farmers, will increase agricultural productivity, and strengthen national food security.
