The Abdullahi and Hafsatu Ganduje Foundation has donated N10 million to support Dr. Mahmud Muhammad, a medical doctor at Uthman Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital (UDUTH), Sokoto, who is battling a severe eye condition that could lead to total blindness.
During the presentation of the donation, Acting Director-General of the Foundation, Dr. Abubakar Isah Bakori, emphasized the importance of the support, describing Dr. Mahmud as a dedicated medical professional who has served others and is now in urgent need of help.
“This assistance is a way to give back to someone who has contributed to the health and well-being of Nigerians. He now requires corneal transplantation to restore his sight,” Bakori said.
The N10 million donation, intended to cover the cost of surgery at Aravind Eye Hospital in India, was handed over through the Resident Doctors Association in Sokoto.
Dr. Mahmud was diagnosed months ago with a hazy cornea and deep corneal vascularization, resulting in bilateral blindness.
In appreciation, letters were sent to the Foundation’s Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, by the Chief Medical Director of UDUTH, Prof. Anas A. Sabir, the President of the Resident Doctors Association, Dr. Murtala Bello Ibrahim, and the University of Maiduguri’s MBBS Class of 2013. They acknowledged the donation and pledged to ensure the funds are used appropriately for the intended medical care.
