Four Killed, Six Injured in Auto Crash at Tomas Dam in Kano

The Kano State Fire Service has confirmed the death of four persons following a road accident involving a Golf Wagon vehicle at Tomas Dam in Danbatta Local Government Area.

According to a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the agency, Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, the incident occurred on Tuesday at about 7:10 p.m. when the Danbatta Fire Service Station received a distress call from one Suleman reporting the crash.

The statement said the vehicle, which was travelling from Kano to Roni in Jigawa State, crashed at Tomas Dam with 10 persons on board.

Firefighters from the Danbatta station were immediately deployed to the scene and successfully rescued all the victims from the vehicle.

Four of the victims were rescued unconscious but were later confirmed dead. The deceased were identified as Shamsiya Miko, aged about 35 years, and Fatima Danlami, aged about 40 years, while the identities of two others were yet to be confirmed.

All the victims were evacuated to Danbatta General Hospital for medical attention and other necessary procedures.

Preliminary investigations by the Fire Service revealed that the accident was caused by a burst tyre.

The Director of the Kano State Fire Service, Sani Anas, appealed to motorists to drive carefully and responsibly to prevent road accidents.

He also urged relevant authorities to urgently repair the Tomas Dam embankment to protect lives and property.
