As part of its 41st Anniversary celebrations, the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) Women’s Wing, Sokoto State Chapter, launched an intensive sensitization campaign aimed at promoting crime prevention and addressing rising security challenges in the Northwest, particularly in Sokoto State.
On Monday, the PCRC Women’s Committee marked the anniversary with a series of activities emphasizing the role of women in enhancing community security and preventing crime.
The Committee visited the Police Children School at the Mobile Barracks, Kalambaina, and Hafsatu Ahmadu Bello Secondary School, both located within the state capital.
During their visits, Hon. Hajara Aliyu Sanda, Coordinator of the PCRC Women’s Committee, Sokoto State, highlighted the indispensable role of women in curbing insecurity.
“Women must be at the forefront of community policing efforts. Our vigilance, nurturing spirit, and commitment are critical in addressing security challenges in our society,” Hon. Sanda said.
Dr. Hindatu Usman, Deputy Secretary of the National Women’s Committee, further stressed the importance of collective vigilance. She called on citizens to report suspicious activities promptly to the appropriate authorities to strengthen communal safety.
At the Police Children School, the committee distributed exercise books to support the educational development of the pupils as part of their social responsibility.
At Hafsatu Ahmadu Bello Secondary School, the sensitization efforts targeted senior students, many of whom were unaware of the role of the PCRC.
The school principal expressed enthusiasm about the initiative and pledged to establish a PCRC club within the school to sustain the engagement.
In addition, sanitary pads were distributed to female students to support menstrual hygiene and encourage girls’ education.
The campaign also included a courtesy visit to the Commissioner of Police, Sokoto State Command, who commended the committee’s efforts and pledged greater collaboration to achieve a safer, crime-free society.
“The Command remains fully committed to strengthening our partnership with the PCRC to foster a more secure environment for all,” the Commissioner affirmed.

The sensitization campaign reaffirmed the critical need for women’s participation in community policing efforts and highlighted the broader role of education and health initiatives in building safer, more resilient communities across Sokoto State and the Northwest region.
