Court Issues Bench Warrant Against Trailer Driver Over Alleged N16m Powerbike Damage in Kano

A Kano State Chief Magistrate Court, presided over by Hadiza Muhammad Hassan, on Thursday issued a bench warrant against Bala Salisu, the driver of an Iveco trailer, who allegedly crushed a sports motorcycle valued at N16 million.

The motorcycle belonged to Salisu Abubakar Tangland, the National Welfare Officer of the Superbike Club Association of Nigeria, popularly known as Buzzy Pele was damaged beyond repair.

He was granted bail at the last sitting. When the case resumed today for hearing, the prosecution counsel, Barrister Usman Abdullahi, informed the court that neither Bala nor his sureties were present.

He explained: “Today was slated for hearing, but the defendant absconded without any justification. In view of the foregoing, I apply under Section 351 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law, 2019, for an order to arrest the defendant and to summon his sureties to appear before this court.”

After listening to the application, the Presiding Chief Magistrate, Hadiza Muhammad Hassan, granted the request as prayed.

The driver, earlier arraigned before the court on charges of negligence and reckless driving, was said to have contravened the Penal Code Law.

The defendant allegedly crushed the complainant’s motorcycle while on Tamburawa Bridge during a traffic hold-up in Kano.

gathered that the matter was not resolved amicably, which prompted the complainant to approach the court for redress.

The court adjourned the case until 27th April, 2026, for hearing.
