The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has dismissed as false a viral claim suggesting the introduction of a new N5,000 banknote bearing the image of Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The image, widely circulated across social media platforms, appeared to show a redesigned high-value naira note, sparking widespread reactions among Nigerians.

Many users questioned whether the country was set to roll out a new denomination, while others expressed skepticism and called for official clarification.

The controversial photo gained traction on platforms such as X, WhatsApp, and Facebook, with some users presenting it as an official release from the apex bank.

Reacting to the development, the CBN swiftly debunked the claim, describing the content as fake.

In a statement posted on its official X handle, the bank said, “This content is fake. Let the public be guided.”

While the CBN did not provide additional details, it reaffirmed that no such banknote has been introduced, a move expected to calm public speculation and curb the spread of misinformation.

The apex bank further advised Nigerians to rely only on verified information from its official communication channels and cautioned against sharing unconfirmed reports that could mislead the public.

This is not the first time such claims have surfaced.

In 2025, the CBN similarly dismissed reports alleging the introduction of N5,000 and N10,000 notes, urging Nigerians to disregard the false information.
