The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has revoked the registration certificate of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) following a prolonged leadership tussle that has troubled the organisation for nearly 20 years.
The revocation was disclosed in a statement on Monday by Mrs. Omolara Esan, Director of Information and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Youth Development.
According to the statement, the decision was made pursuant to Sections 8(1)(c) and 8(1)(d) of the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) 2020, after an extensive investigation into the Council’s operations.
Esan said the CAC discovered “serial violations” of both the NYCN Constitution and CAMA provisions, particularly Sections 833 and 834, prompting the deregistration of all existing leadership, trusteeship, and management claims within the organisation.
In line with its statutory mandate, the CAC has constituted an Interim Management Committee (IMC) to administer the Council’s affairs for one year, effective October 6, 2025.
The Federal Ministry of Youth Development, as the Council’s supervisory authority, recognised the CAC’s legal powers and pledged full collaboration with the IMC to restore stability, legitimacy, and integrity to the NYCN.
Esan appealed to all stakeholders, youth groups, and development partners to cooperate with the restructuring efforts aimed at repositioning the Council in line with its founding principles.
