Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has commissioned a newly constructed Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) complex in Kontagora.

The project, initiated by the Chairman of Kontagora Local Government Council, Alhaji Shehu Pawa, was described by the Governor as a significant dividend of democracy that will stimulate economic growth in the area.

Governor Bago praised the council chairman for delivering such a facility, noting that it will create jobs, strengthen existing businesses, and boost socio-economic activities in Kontagora and beyond.

As part of his support for the sector, the Governor announced a donation of ₦50 million to the GSM Association to enhance business operations for its members.

He also disclosed that the Federal lawmaker representing Kontagora/Wushishi/Mariga/Mashegu Federal Constituency, Abdullahi Idris Garba, will provide a vehicle to the association to aid logistics.

Speaking at the commissioning, the Vice Chairman of the GSM Association in Kontagora, Sanusi Umar, described the project as timely, and explaining that members had operated without a befitting structure for years.

He noted that the new facility will significantly improve their operations and appealed for a permanent structure to serve members across the Niger North Senatorial District, where the association has 9 units in 8 local government areas with over 13,000 members.

In recognition of his transformational leadership and contributions to socio-economic development, the association presented Governor Bago with an award of excellence.

The Governor later inspected the Kontagora bypass road and directed the immediate repair of damaged streetlights to improve safety and infrastructure in the area.
