Nigerian music star Ayra Starr has revealed her ambitious goals of winning multiple Grammy Awards, topping the Billboard Hot 100, and headlining the Super Bowl halftime show, following her recent record-breaking achievement on the global music scene.
The 23-year-old Afrobeats singer, born Oyinkansola Aderibigbe, recently became the first African artist to earn a Latin Diamond certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
Her international hit Santa, a collaboration with Rvssian and Rauw Alejandro, surpassed 35 million streams to earn the prestigious recognition.
She joins fellow Nigerian artist Rema as one of the only African acts with an RIAA Latin certification, with his song Bubalu going Platinum.
In an interview with eTalk, Ayra expressed her desire to reach new heights in the music industry.
“I definitely want a Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 song.
“That’s non-negotiable,” she said. “I want Grammys—lots of them. I want to tour the world, especially Asia. I’ve done some global touring, but I want to expand on a much larger scale. Ten years from now, I want to headline the Super Bowl halftime show.”
Beyond music, Ayra also has long-term goals in business.
“Twenty years from now, I want to have my own brand—maybe in fashion, makeup, skincare, or just something fun and creative that I enjoy,” she added.
Though she has yet to win a Grammy, Ayra made history in early 2024 as the youngest and first Nigerian female artist nominated for Best African Music Performance at the 66th Grammy Awards for her global smash hit Rush.
She was nominated alongside industry heavyweights including Burna Boy, Davido, Asake, and Olamide, but the award went to South African singer Tyla for her hit single Water.
With her rising international profile and bold aspirations, Ayra Starr continues to pave the way for African artists on the global stage, proving that her journey is just getting started.
