Over 58 students of the Federal Polytechnic, Auchi, Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State have been expelled by the management of the institution over alleged involvement in cult-related activities.

The Rector of the Polytechnic, Dr. Salisu Shehu Umar, who disclosed this in an interview with newsmen in Auchi, said the students were expelled between 2022 and to date.

Umar, who added that the institution has zero tolerance to cultism, noted that the expulsion has enabled the institution to actually cut down the magnitude of cult related activities in the school.

According to him, cultism is a problem especially in this part of the country and no one can pretend to be ignorance of the menace of cultism.

“So far we have expelled over 58 students with cult related issues between 2022 till date and we are still doing it and not relenting” he said.

He explained that on assumption of office as the Rector of the institution, he called a stakeholders’ meeting of students to direct them to renounce membership of secret cults so that they could be forgiven.

He said, he warned that whoever was caught would face the consequences.

The Rector added that the directive made a lot of the students to renounce their membership of cult groups.

He also added that the staff of the institution including himself and management staff swore to an affidavit of not belonging to the cult group.

“This can be attested to if you check the numbers of students expelled between 2022 till date.

“The institution has zero tolerance for cultism. Anybody caught in cult related activities will show the way out, whether staff or students,” he added.
