APP Wins 22 of 23 Chairmanship Seats in Rivers LG Polls

Editor

The Action People’s Party (APP) has secured 22 out of 23 chairmanship positions in the recently concluded local government elections in Rivers State.

Adolphus Enebeli, the Chief Electoral Officer of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), announced the results on Saturday in Port Harcourt.

However, the declaration of results for Etche Local Government Area (LGA) has been postponed, as collation is still ongoing.

Enebeli also mentioned that the results for the 319 councillorship positions will be announced alongside the Etche Chairmanship result once the collation process is completed.

He described the election as “free, fair, and credible, despite all odds,” adding that polls closed at 3 pm and witnessed a significant voter turnout.

Enebeli commended the patriotism of the residents who participated in the elections.

The results were declared in the presence of members of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), chairmen of state electoral bodies from across the country, and representatives from the Nigerian Bar Association, who served as observers during the polls.

Enebeli noted that the commission had to “adopt the principle of bi-location because of the exigencies” they faced.

The results were announced at the Ministry of Justice Hall within the State Secretariat complex, instead of the Commission’s office on Aba Road.
