The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has confirmed that two newly suspected Ebola cases in Adamawa State have tested negative following two rounds of laboratory testing.

The agency also disclosed that 62 contacts linked to Nigeria’s first confirmed Ebola case are currently under monitoring, while six primary contacts are expected to be discharged from isolation on Sunday after completing the mandatory 21-day monitoring period without developing symptoms of the disease.

The NCDC Incident Manager for Ebola, Dr Odianosen Ehiakhamen, said the six individuals include two domestic staff of the index patient and a driver.

According to the Director-General of NCDC, Dr Jide Idris, the Adamawa State Public Health Emergency Operations Centre (PHEOC) received reports of the two suspected cases in the early hours of 30 October 2026.

He said the individuals were identified with symptoms suggestive of Ebola, prompting further investigation and the activation of appropriate public health measures.

Idris explained that the suspected cases were immediately isolated and samples collected for laboratory analysis to determine the cause of their illness.

He confirmed that the samples tested negative for Ebola virus disease after two rounds of testing.

The NCDC chief commended the Adamawa State Commissioner for Health and his team for their proactive response, assuring that the agency would continue to provide technical support to strengthen the state’s response operations.

He emphasised that there was no laboratory-confirmed Ebola case in Adamawa State, adding that the index case, previously confirmed in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and evacuated to Switzerland for treatment, remained the only confirmed case reported in Nigeria.

Idris urged Nigerians to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information or speculation about the situation, advising the public to rely on official government and public health communication channels for updates.

He described Ebola as a serious infectious disease requiring prompt identification, appropriate clinical management and effective infection prevention and control measures.

The NCDC Director-General advised anyone experiencing symptoms such as fever, severe weakness, headache, muscle pain, vomiting, diarrhoea or unexplained bleeding, particularly after possible exposure, to seek immediate medical attention.

He also urged affected individuals to inform healthcare workers about relevant travel or contact history, avoid self-medication and follow professional medical advice.

Idris assured that the NCDC, in collaboration with the Adamawa State Government and other relevant stakeholders, would continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as verified information becomes available.
