The Imo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has insisted that Governor Hope Uzodimma remains its candidate for the Imo West Senatorial District in the 2027 general elections, despite a Federal High Court judgment in favour of former governor Rochas Okorocha.
The party maintained that Uzodimma won its senatorial primary election, adding that its next steps would be guided by a review of the court’s decision by its legal department.
In a statement signed by its State Publicity Secretary, Onwuasoanya FCC Jones, the APC reaffirmed its support for Uzodimma, insisting that he secured the party’s ticket with the backing of the majority of its members.
“The Party wishes to state without any confusion that His Excellency Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, remains the candidate of our Party for Imo West Senatorial District, having won the primaries of our great Party with the overwhelming support of the majority of our Party members,” the statement said.
The party, however, indicated that it would examine the legal implications of the judgment before determining its next course of action.
“The Party’s legal department shall study the outcome of a legal intervention in this matter and act accordingly,” it added.
The APC’s position follows a judgment delivered by Justice Obiora Egwuatu of the Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday, October 29, 2026, in a suit challenging Uzodimma’s emergence as the party’s candidate for Imo West.
The court ruled that Okorocha won the May 18 senatorial primary and ordered the APC to submit his name to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as its candidate for the district in the 2027 general elections.
The judge also ordered Uzodimma to stop presenting himself as the APC’s candidate for the senatorial seat.
Despite the ruling, the Imo APC has yet to announce a final decision on whether it will appeal the judgment, saying its legal department must first review the court’s decision.
