In a decisive intervention to protect lives and cushion vulnerable families against the devastating effects of a disease outbreak in Sokoto State, the Chairman of Isa Local Government Area, Hon. Sharehu Abubakar Kamarawa, has launched a free medical outreach to provide urgent healthcare support to residents.

The initiative is designed to remove financial barriers to medical treatment, particularly for low-income families, elderly people and other vulnerable residents who may struggle to afford consultations, medication and other essential healthcare services during the outbreak.

Kamarawa said the intervention was prompted by the need to respond swiftly to the emerging public health challenge and prevent residents from suffering avoidable complications because they lacked the financial means to seek medical attention.

He stressed that protecting human lives remained a fundamental responsibility of government, adding that the local government would not remain indifferent while residents faced health challenges requiring urgent attention.

“The health and well-being of our people are paramount. No resident should be prevented from accessing medical care because of financial difficulties, especially during a disease outbreak,” the chairman said.

He explained that the outreach would provide immediate medical assistance to residents of affected communities while supporting broader efforts by relevant health authorities to contain the spread of the disease.

According to him, the intervention also seeks to ease the emotional and financial pressure on families whose livelihoods could be disrupted by illness, particularly those already struggling to meet their daily needs.

The chairman assured residents that his administration would continue to collaborate with relevant health authorities, medical personnel and other stakeholders to monitor the situation and introduce appropriate measures to protect public health.

Kamarawa called on residents to remain calm and vigilant, urging anyone experiencing symptoms associated with the outbreak to seek prompt medical attention rather than resorting to self-medication or delaying treatment.

He further appealed to community leaders and residents to cooperate with healthcare workers, observe preventive measures and comply with official health advisories to prevent further transmission of the disease.

The chairman emphasised that government intervention alone would not be sufficient to overcome the challenge, noting that public awareness, early reporting of suspected cases and collective responsibility were essential to containing the outbreak.

For vulnerable households, the free medical outreach represents an opportunity to seek professional medical attention without the immediate burden of healthcare costs.

The initiative also highlights the importance of grassroots intervention in ensuring that public health emergencies do not leave disadvantaged communities without support.

Kamarawa reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to prioritising the welfare of residents, pledging continued attention to healthcare needs as the situation develops.

He urged residents to utilise the available free medical services and report suspected cases promptly to the appropriate health authorities, stressing that early intervention and community cooperation are critical to safeguarding lives.
