Libya’s Foreign Ministry has discussed arrangements for implementing a decision to exempt Iraqi nationals living in the country from residency-related fees and fines accrued over the past 10 years.

The issue was discussed in Tripoli by Al-Taher Hussein, director of the ministry’s General Protocol Department, and Iraqi chargé d’affaires Ahmed Al-Sahaf.

The meeting also reviewed the outcome of the Libyan-Iraqi Joint Committee, which met in Baghdad from 23 to 25 August, and ways to implement agreements aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation.

Al-Sahaf stressed the need to complete the procedures required to bring the exemption into force and allow eligible Iraqi nationals to regularise their residency status.

The two officials also discussed an upcoming Organisation of Islamic Cooperation meeting in Baghdad in the second half of October and Libya’s participation, including an invitation extended to Foreign Minister Al-Taher Al-Baour.

Both sides agreed on the importance of continued coordination and removing obstacles to diplomatic work.
