The Kano State Primary Health Care Management Board (KSPHCMB) has commenced efforts to strengthen and sustain Routine Immunization (RI) coordination across the state.
The initiative was highlighted at a one-day RI Coordination Co-Creation Workshop held on Tuesday at Tahir Guest Palace, Kano, and chaired by the Director-General of KSPHCMB, Professor Salisu Ahmad Ibrahim.
The workshop brought together members of the Kano State Expanded Routine Immunization Coordination Committee (SERICC), KSPHCMB management, Technical Working Group (TWG) leads, and representatives of development partners, including the Gates Foundation’s Senior Program Officer, Dr. Sa’ad Abdulmumin.
The stakeholders reviewed existing RI coordination mechanisms and worked towards developing a sustainable, government-owned model for coordinating immunization activities in the state.
The engagement provided an opportunity for stakeholders to align on effective RI coordination principles, reflect on lessons learned, and review and validate findings from a coordination desk review and Key Informant Interviews (KIIs).
Participants also deliberated on a sustainable RI coordination model and agreed on the need to secure collective commitment towards its implementation.
Speaking at the workshop, Professor Salisu Ahmad Ibrahim urged the Kano SERICC and other stakeholders to remain proactive, coordinated and responsive to changes in Routine Immunization indicators at the national level.
He called on stakeholders to continuously assess the state’s performance, strengthen coordination and adapt strategies where necessary to remain aligned with national expectations and emerging priorities.
The KSPHCMB DG stressed that sustained government ownership, clearly defined responsibilities, accountability and effective collaboration with development partners would be critical to sustaining progress and improving immunization outcomes in Kano.
He said the workshop marked an important milestone in the state’s efforts to develop a practical and sustainable RI coordination model capable of responding effectively to changing national priorities.
The process is expected to culminate in a clear action framework that will strengthen coordination, improve accountability and sustain gains in Routine Immunization, ultimately contributing to better immunization outcomes for children and families across Kano State.
