The Chairman of the Civil Society Coalition on Peace, Security and Conflict Resolution, Comrade Muhammad Musbahu Basirka, has pledged to serve with integrity and dedication following his appointment as the Civil Society Representative on the newly established Jigawa State Task Force on Drug and Substance Abuse and Social Re-orientation.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Comrade Basirka expressed appreciation to Governor Umar A. Namadi for appointing him to the task force, describing the gesture as a demonstration of confidence in the role of civil society in promoting peace, security, accountability and community development.
He said the establishment of the task force through an Executive Order signed by the governor marks a significant milestone, noting that Jigawa has become the first state in Nigeria to adopt a comprehensive legal framework integrating drug control, substance abuse prevention and social re-orientation under a single structure.
According to him, the initiative reflects the governor’s commitment to protecting young people from the dangers of drug abuse while promoting positive social values across the state.
Comrade Basirka also commended the Chairman and Chief Executive of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd.), for inaugurating the committees, saying the agency’s involvement underscores the importance of the initiative.
He expressed confidence that close collaboration between the NDLEA and the state task force would provide sustainable solutions to the growing challenge of drug abuse and other related social vices.
The civil society leader pledged to deploy his experience and expertise towards the successful implementation of the committee’s mandate despite his national and international engagements.
He further called on civil society organizations, community-based organizations, non-governmental organizations, development partners, faith-based institutions, traditional rulers, youth and women groups, the media and other stakeholders to actively support the task force through constructive ideas and technical contributions.
Comrade Basirka stressed that addressing drug abuse and promoting social re-orientation require collective action and broad public participation.
He expressed optimism that sustained partnership and shared responsibility would help build a safer, healthier and more prosperous Jigawa State for present and future generations.
