Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye dismissed the country’s Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko and dissolved the government on Friday.
The announcement was made on state television by an aide to the president and comes after a period of tensions in the country’s top political echelons.
The president and the prime minister have previously been close, but the relationship between them has gradually deteriorated and developed into open rivalry, according to AFP.
According to the president, all members of the government are said to be forced to resign along with the prime minister.
