Governor Ahmed Aliyu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting security agencies in combating banditry and other criminal activities in Sokoto State.
He gave the assurance on Wednesday during a visit to the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, at his office in Abuja.
Aliyu stated that since assuming office, his administration has consistently provided logistics and operational support to security agencies to enhance their effectiveness in protecting lives and property.
He disclosed that over 200 patrol vehicles have been procured and distributed to security agencies to boost their capacity, particularly in areas affected by insecurity.
“We are doing this because we strongly believe that protecting the lives and property of our people is a collective responsibility, not that of the Federal Government alone,” the governor said.
He noted that security remains a top priority under his administration’s 9-Point Smart Innovative Agenda, adding that his government is committed to strengthening collaboration with the police and other relevant agencies.
While acknowledging the persistent challenges of banditry in the state, the governor said security agencies have recorded significant progress and urged them to sustain the momentum.
He emphasized the importance of effective intelligence gathering and information sharing, describing them as critical to successful security operations.
Aliyu also called for stronger synergy among all security agencies operating in the state to enhance the fight against criminality.
The Governor commended former Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Musa, for his contributions to improving security in the state, describing him as a disciplined and committed officer.
He urged the newly posted Commissioner of Police, Hayatu Hassan, to emulate his predecessor’s dedication.
He further congratulated the new IGP on his appointment and urged him to justify the confidence reposed in him.
In his response, Disu praised Governor Aliyu for his sustained support of security agencies and assured him of continued collaboration between the police and the Sokoto State Government to tackle insecurity.
