Kano State Government has announced adjustments to activities for the forthcoming Eid-el-Fitr celebrations following intelligence reports of plans by some individuals to disrupt public peace in the state.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, the government said the decision was based on credible security reports received through the State Security Council, indicating attempts to incite unrest during the Sallah festivities.
According to the statement, the Kano State Government reaffirmed its commitment to preserving the state’s rich cultural heritage.
“While stressing that the maintenance of law and order, and the protection of lives and property, remain the government’s primary constitutional duty,” the statement added.
After consultations with the Kano Emirate Council and other stakeholders, the government approved a modified schedule for traditional Sallah events as follows:
The Hawan Idi (Eid Durbar) will be conducted by the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, from Kofar Mata Eid Praying Ground through designated routes to Gidan Shettima, ending at Kofar Fatalwa within the Emir’s Palace.
Hawan Nasarawa will take place in a modified format without horse riding, while Hawan Daushe, Hawan Fanisau, and Hawan Dorayi have been suspended for the time being in the interest of public safety.
Security agencies have been directed to intensify surveillance to ensure strict compliance with the new directives and take all lawful measures to prevent any breakdown of law and order before, during, and after the celebrations.
The government urged residents to remain calm, law-abiding, and cooperative with security operatives, while cautioning against the spread of unverified information.
It also commended security agencies for their continued professionalism and reassured citizens of its commitment to a peaceful and hitch-free Sallah celebration.
