On Tuesday, the Zakat Committee of the Hadejia Emirate distributed farm produce worth more than N7.7 million and cash exceeding N13 million to needy residents in Waje District of Malam Madori Local Government Area.
The Secretary of the Zakat Committee, Engineer Ismail Garba Barde, disclosed this shortly after the distribution while speaking with the Information Officer of Malam Madori Local Government Area, Musa Muhammad Hadejia.
According to him, the committee collected various farm produce, including 126 bags of rice, 13 bags of guinea corn, and 120 bags of millet, as well as other items such as muds and bundles, with a combined value of N7,775,000.
Engineer Barde added that the committee also realized cash donations amounting to about N13,300,000, bringing the total value of the Zakat distributed to approximately N21,055,000.
He explained that the items and cash were distributed to indigent members of the community who are natives of the area.
The Chairman of the Hadejia Emirate Zakat Committee, Talban Hadejia, Barrister Abdulfatah Abdulwahab, represented by the Chief Imam of the Emirate, Sheikh Yusuf Abdurrahman Ya’u, said the Zakat distribution was formally launched at Babbar Ruga.
In his remarks, Islamic scholar Dr. Umar Nasarawa urged wealthy individuals to continue paying Zakat as a way of purifying their wealth and supporting the less privileged in society.
Also speaking, the District Head of Waje, Katukan Hadejia, Alhaji Ilyasu Ibrahim, expressed appreciation to the Zakat Committee for its commitment to ensuring the proper collection and distribution of Zakat across the districts of the Emirate.
