The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Congress Committee for Sokoto State, Hon. Lawali Liman Kaura, has on Thursday expressed strong satisfaction with the conduct of the party’s Ward Congresses held across the 244 wards of Sokoto State on Wednesday, describing the exercise as peaceful, orderly and a clear demonstration of internal democracy in action.
Speaking after an inspection tour of selected wards in the state, Hon. Kaura commended party members for what he described as a remarkable display of discipline, maturity and unity throughout the exercise. He was accompanied by the Committee Secretary, Zubairu Muhammad Lawali.
According to him, the peaceful conduct of the congresses highlights the APC’s commitment to strengthening democratic institutions at the grassroots level, not only in Sokoto State but across Nigeria.
“The behavior of our members during the Ward Congresses reflects the true meaning of our party’s symbol, the broom, which stands for unity and collective strength.
“What we have witnessed is unity in practice and democracy at work,” he said.
He explained that the broom symbolizes solidarity and shared purpose, emphasizing that individual strands are weak on their own but powerful when bound together a principle he said should continue to guide party members.
Kaura noted that the smooth and orderly process has laid a solid foundation for the forthcoming Local Government Congresses scheduled to hold nationwide on Saturday.
He urged party faithful to sustain the same spirit of cooperation, tolerance and unity as the congress process progresses, stressing that internal cohesion is essential for the party’s continued relevance and electoral success at both state and national levels.
The Committee Chairman also praised the Sokoto State leadership of the APC for what he described as effective planning and transparent coordination, which he said ensured the seamless conduct of the exercise.
“The state leadership has demonstrated capacity and commitment.
“Their preparation and organization contributed immensely to the success recorded across the wards,” he added.
Political observers believe that the successful ward congresses in Sokoto mirror similar developments in other states, reinforcing the APC’s broader strategy of consolidating its structures nationwide.
The ongoing congresses are considered a critical phase in renewing party leadership at the grassroots, deepening internal democracy, and positioning the party ahead of future political engagements across the country.
