The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has dismissed reports claiming that the party does not have governorship candidates in 12 states ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party described the reports as false and misleading, insisting that it has duly nominated governorship candidates in all 28 states where governorship elections will be held in 2027.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the NDC National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, said the party had candidates in all the states where governorship elections are scheduled to take place.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the NDC has duly nominated and has governorship candidates in all the 28 states where governorship elections will take place in 2027,” the Director said.
The party also rejected suggestions that it was a regional political organisation, stressing that it had structures, candidates and supporters across the country.
“The NDC is not a regional party. We are a national movement with candidates, structures, and supporters in all 36 states and the FCT,” the statement added.
The party listed its governorship candidates in the 12 states allegedly identified in the reports as follows:
- Zamfara State: Senator Kabiru Marafa
- Borno State: Rtd. Rear Admiral Ibrahim Sanusi Kasim
- Cross River State: Hon. John Odey
- Akwa Ibom State: Babanta Michael Okon
- Ebonyi State: Nwofe Boniface
- Plateau State: Yakubu Solomon Ndam
- Katsina State: Ilu-Barde Aliyu
- Kebbi State: Alhaji Umar Usman Besse
- Yobe State: Jonga Yahaya Gabakau
- Jigawa State: Dutse Aminu Sani
- Taraba State: Prof. Yahaya Mohammed Sani
- Niger State: Abdu Sidi Bomi
The NDC urged media organisations, journalists, bloggers and content creators to verify information before publishing, warning against the spread of unverified claims.
“We urge media houses, journalists, bloggers, and content creators to scrutinize their sources and verify information before publishing. Journalism thrives on truth, not rumours,” the party said.
It warned that the circulation of unverified information could undermine public confidence in both the media and the democratic process.
The party said it would remain focused on what it described as issue-based politics ahead of the 2027 elections, adding that it would not be distracted by what it called sponsored falsehoods.
“We will not be distracted by sponsored falsehoods,” the NDC said.
The party also urged Nigerians to support its political agenda, promising to prioritise security, job creation and accountability if elected.
