The Chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), Professor Abdullahi Usman, has resigned from his position.
His Media Assistant, Ahmed Muazu, confirmed the development on Monday.
However, no official reason was provided for the resignation as of the time of filing this report.
Professor Usman was appointed by President Bola Tinubu in 2024 to head the commission, succeeding Jalal Arabi, who was removed from office.
Arabi was reportedly under investigation over the alleged misappropriation of funds released by the Federal Government for the 2024 Hajj exercise.
Prof. Usman oversaw his first Hajj operations in 2025, marking his debut in managing Nigeria’s pilgrimage affairs at the national level.
His relatively brief tenure was, however, overshadowed by a series of controversies within the commission.
Allegations of financial mismanagement and misappropriation of funds during the 2025 Hajj operations sparked internal tensions and attracted public scrutiny.
Further details surrounding his resignation are still being awaited.
