Kano Information Commissioner Meet with Yoruba Community on Security

Kano State Commissioner of Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, has solicited the support of the Yoruba community in Kano state to join hands with the state government in ensuring the prevalence of security and peaceful coexistence.

He made the plea on Thursday during a meeting with the members of the South–western states residing in Kano state under the leadership of the Oba of Yoruba in Kano, Ambassador Murtala Alimi Otisese as part of the series of stakeholder engagement meetings embarked by his office with the people from the 6 Geopolitical zones in Kano.

The commissioner explained that the meeting was aimed at creating opportunities for the government to engage different stakeholders, groups and organizations that will support the ongoing initiatives of Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf in restoring and securing the state against all forms of threat and security challenges.

He expressed confidence that considering the long existing relationship between the Yoruba community and the people of Kano state, they will support this initiative as it will assist government continue to execute meaningful developmental projects, programmes and policies that will promote the living standard of the people in the state irrespective of where their origins might be.

Comrade Waiya observed that without adequate security and harmonious relationship, nothing meaningful can be achieved, hence the need for all hands to be on deck to salvage
the security sector.

He assured them that Kano state government has remained resolute in its responsibility of protecting the lives and properties of whoever resides in the state and “your cooperation is needed since the issue of security is a collective responsibility”.

While thanking the Yoruba community for honouring the invitation, he said that more goodies will be witnessed in the area of Sabon Gari in addition to the reconstruction of New, Sarkin yaki and Zungeru roads among other projects.

Responding, the Oba of the Yoruba community in Kano, Ambassador Murtala Alimi Otisese, appreciates the leadership style of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, which he said is not discriminatory as it spreads projects to the areas of even those who are not of the state’s origin.

The Oba therefore, pledged total support to the initiative, assuring the commissioner that he would call for a stakeholder meeting among the Yoruba community with a view to swinging into action on how best to support the government to achieve its desired objective in the area of security.
